Orkney, Scotland
You can order any of the fossils listed below by clicking here
The specimens on this page are all from the  famous Sandwick Fish Beds on the Isle of Orkney,
Scotland. The main quarry is now closed to collecting. The fauna preserves sharks and fish,
including acanthodinians and osteolepids, some of which are offered below. The specimens all have
the typical preservation with areas of nice glossy scales. As is typical for material from the quarry it
has already been prepared in such a manner that the outline of the fish is well defined. The lobes
are distinct and fin spines are preserved in many instances. The bodies of the species that did not
have large, thick scales are preserved as thin carbon films. These are all very nice specimens of
some of the earliest fish from a classic locality.

A penny is used for scale in all images and it measures 20mm (3/4 inch) wide.
