Stratigraphic Collections II

On this page are listed post Palaeozoic stratigraphic collections plus taxanomic collections. Taxonomic collections are dedicated to just a single group of animals, such as brachiopods or corals. All of these collections are perfect for study as they preserve a diverse range of species. 

  • Cretaceous Hell Creek Turtle Collection 7 species.

    • A rare collection of shell fragments belonging to 7 different species of Turtle from the Hell Creek Formation dinosaur beds.
    • Excellent shell preservation with the pieces retaining the distinct ornamentation of each type. 
    • Genera included are Basilemys, Protochelydra, Adocus and Compsomys. Also includes undetermined Baenid and Trionychid.

  • Palaeocene Sharks, Ray and Fishes of Morocco 30 species

    • A rare collection of shark, fish and ray teeth from the Palaeocene of Morocco. 
    • Click on the title above to see a hi-res image of the slides so you know which species are included in the collection.
    • All are parts of the rare microfauna and include many forms not available as macrofossils. 
    • Each specimen is housed (loose, not glues) in a microfossil slide as shown. 
    • There are 30 species per collection. Most specimens are complete and measure 1 to 4 mm long.

    • A collection of 11 different insect species from the Green River Formation of Colorado. 
    • Includes flies (such as Plecia pealei) and beetles.

  • Oligocene Brooksville, Florida Vertebrate Collection 17 types

    • This collection of vertebrate fossils from the Arikareean (Late Oligocene) Brooksville 2 site of Florida. 
    • The fossils are found in fissures within the rock and are interpreted as being the inhabitants and prey of animals that lived in and around the cave system.  
    • Included in each collection are ONE each of the following: Heliscomys rodent tooth, Proheteromys rodent tooth, Megalus rabbit tooth, Calamagus snake vertebra, Anolis Iguana jaw fragment, amphibian vertebra, Bat finger bone, Mammal toe bone, rodent incisor, crocodilian tooth, ranid frog fossils, and Helioderma Gila monster dermal armor.
    • Typical specimen size is 2 to 5 mm - this is a microfauna.
    • You need magnification to properly view these fossils, but they are wonderful examples of a 28 million year old cave environment.

  • Pleistocene of Florida 19 species Vertebrate Microfauna Collection

    • This collection conists of 19 vertebrate fossils from the Pleistocene river gravels of Levy County, Florida. 
    • Preserving a rare microfauna from the site the specimens measuring between ~2 and 10mm.
    • The collection includes the following: Dasyatis (ray) tooth, Fish spine, Gar scale, tooth and vertebra, chondrichthyan spine, Sigmodon rodent tooth, Sciaenops drum fish tooth, rodent incisor, Ondantra zibethicus tooth, Microtus pennsylvanicus tooth, M. pinetroum tooth, Esox Pike tooth, snake vertebra, amphibian vertebra, Lepomis Bluegill tooth, Cyprinidae tooth, Alligator tooth, Nocomis fish tooth.

  • Silurian Brachiopods of Gotland 30 species

    • A collection of 30 different species of microbrachiopod from the Silurian Beds of Gotland.
    • Although only small in size (2 to 10 mm on average), there is a wide variety of forms present in this collection. 
    • Rarely offered and from material that was collected in 1970.

    • This collection covers the Cambrian to Cretaceous with 75 different species of Brachiopod. 
    • All the specimens are complete and include a wide variety of forms from tiny Cambrian inarticulates to large Devonian atrypids. 
    • The collection comes housed in a plastic storage case that measures 8x6x2 inches.
    • Includes rare Jurassic and Triassic forms. 
    • The exact make-up of the collection varies based on availability but every collection includes specimens from every geological period of the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic.

    • This collection gives a comprehensive overview of the more common forms that are to be found in the Lower Permian Texas Red Beds. 
    • The colletion includes Edops armour, Trimerorhachis toe and claw, Eryops skull plate, intercentrum, toe and claw, Archeria skull plate, palate, vertebra and toe bone, Dimetrodon spine and vertebra, Orthacanth shark tooth and spine, Ophiacodon tooth, Lungfish skull bones, Edaphosaurus spine, and a partial limb bone.
    • All fossils are good, decent specimens and the collection comes with a set of identification cards.
