Palaeozoic Microfossils I

On this page you will find a variety microfossil matrix samples and collections. In an effort to keep the website as simple as possible we have not included images of every sample offered under the assumption most people visiting this page will not have arrived here by accident and know what to expect. All samples are rich in fossils making them ideal for study. As always, if you have any questions then do not hesitate to contact us.

You will note that we have grouped many individual samples together into collections (for ease of ordering and inventory organisation). However, should you require a specific sample that is not listed individually you can contact us and we can discuss your needs. Custom orders are no problem at all.

Unless noted, all microfossil samples come housed in a small gel capsule measuring ~1 to 2cm long (below). This sample size contains abundant specimens that are a good representation of the fauna. All common species should be included. We also offer microfossil slides, these are all similar to those illustrated below.

  • Silurian

    Silurian of Gotland Collection

A collection of 10 samples from the Silurian Beds of Gotland representing most of the fossil beds (Visby, Hemse, Eke etc.) Ostracods are abundant along with many other types of marine invertebrate, including the enigmatic chitinozoa. The ostracod fauna from Gotland is about 200 species strong and includes a huge diversity of forms. The exact localities from which the samples will come will vary based on availability, but regardless each of the following beds will be included: Visby, Hogklint, Hemse, Eke, Mulde and Slite.

We also have a limited number of collections from Gotland consisting of 30 (£100) and 40 (£125) samples. If you would like to order either of these please let us know.

  • Silurian Chitinozoa of Gotland 4 samples

    • Chitinozoa are common in some parts of the Gotland series and here are offered 4 different Chitinozoa bearing samples.
    • Chitinozoa are tiny black eggcases that are believed to have come from snails. They are resistant to acid treatment and so can be concentrated when samples are dissolved. These samples are still raw yet contain abundant specimens.

    • Ostracods, crinoids, brachiopods and bryozoa are the dominant forms.
