Texas Red Beds

The fossils on this page are from the classic Red Beds of Texas. These deposits were collected by the likes of Sternberg, Williston and Romer and many of the most famous Permian animals were named for specimens found here - Eryops, Dimetrodon, Archeria etc.

  • Archeria

Archeria was a large, heavily built anthracosaur, a group that is uncommon in the fossil record. Known mostly from vertebrae, it is believed the skeleton was poorly ossified resulting in few complete specimens being recovered.
